Privacy Policy

Umbrella Code LLP ("we", "us", "our") operates the Marrymo application. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our mobile application.

1. Information We Collect

We collect the following categories of personal data:

  • Identity Data: name, date of birth, gender, photographs and profile images you upload.
  • Contact Data: email address, phone number.
  • Profile Data: relationship preferences, partner preferences, religion, community, occupation, education, and other profile details you provide.
  • Location Data: your approximate or precise location (with your permission) to show relevant profiles near you.
  • AI Interaction Data: messages and preferences you share with our AI chatbot to help understand your partner preferences.
  • Device & Usage Data: device type, operating system, unique device identifiers, IP address, app usage patterns, crash logs, and diagnostics.
  • Photos: images you upload are considered sensitive personal data and are processed only with your explicit consent.

2. Legal Basis for Processing (GDPR)

If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA) or the UK, we process your personal data on the following bases:

  • Consent: you have given consent for processing your data for specific purposes (e.g., uploading photos, AI interactions).
  • Contract: processing is necessary to perform our contract with you (providing the matchmaking service).
  • Legitimate Interest: processing is necessary for our legitimate interests (e.g., fraud prevention, improving the service), provided these are not overridden by your rights.
  • Legal Obligation: processing is necessary to comply with applicable law.

3. How We Use Your Information

  • To create, maintain, and authenticate your account.
  • To provide matchmaking and profile discovery features.
  • To personalise your experience and improve our AI-driven recommendations.
  • To send push notifications (matches, messages, updates) with your consent.
  • To detect and prevent fraud, abuse, and policy violations.
  • To respond to customer support requests.
  • To comply with legal obligations.

4. AI-Powered Features

Marrymo uses artificial intelligence to help understand your partner preferences. Your conversations with our AI chatbot are processed to improve recommendations. AI-generated suggestions are not guarantees of compatibility. We do not use your data to train third-party AI models without your explicit consent.

5. Data Sharing & Third-Party Processors

We do not sell your personal information. We may share data with the following categories of third parties solely to operate our service:

  • Cloud Infrastructure: Google Cloud Platform / Firebase (hosting, authentication, database, storage).
  • Push Notifications: Firebase Cloud Messaging.
  • Analytics: anonymised usage data for service improvement.
  • Legal & Safety: when required by law, court order, or to protect the safety of our users.

All third-party processors are contractually bound to protect your data in accordance with applicable data protection laws.

6. Data Retention

We retain your personal data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide you with our services. If you delete your account, we will delete or anonymise your personal data within 30 days, except where retention is required by law (e.g., for up to 6 years for legal claims).

7. Data Security

We implement industry-standard security measures including encryption in transit (TLS) and at rest, access controls, and regular security assessments. However, no method of electronic transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

8. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have the following rights:

  • Access: request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
  • Rectification: request correction of inaccurate data.
  • Erasure: request deletion of your personal data ("right to be forgotten").
  • Data Portability: request your data in a structured, machine-readable format.
  • Restrict Processing: request that we limit how we use your data.
  • Object: object to processing based on legitimate interests.
  • Withdraw Consent: withdraw consent at any time where processing is based on consent.

9. California Privacy Rights (CCPA)

If you are a California resident, you have the right to: (a) know what personal information we collect and how it is used; (b) request deletion of your personal information; (c) opt out of the sale of personal information (we do not sell your data); and (d) not be discriminated against for exercising your rights.

10. Data Breach Notification

In the event of a personal data breach that is likely to result in a risk to your rights and freedoms, we will notify the relevant supervisory authority within 72 hours and affected users without undue delay, in accordance with GDPR Article 33 and 34.

11. Children's Privacy

Marrymo is not intended for anyone under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If we become aware that we have collected data from a person under 18, we will delete it promptly.

12. International Data Transfers

Your data may be transferred to and processed in countries outside your country of residence. Where we transfer data outside the EEA/UK, we ensure appropriate safeguards are in place (e.g., Standard Contractual Clauses).

13. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes via the app or email. The "Effective Date" at the top indicates when this policy was last revised.
